Dear movie lovers, February is approaching and you know what that means: that we get to say, “And the Oscar 2016 nominees are…” once again!
There is much anticipation in the entire movie world as Hollywood is getting ready for the 88th edition of the Academy Awards, whose ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 28th 2016 in Dolby Theatre starting at 5:30 PM. This year’s host is comedian actor Chris Rock, so we’ll definitely all have a luck. Televised on ABC throughout the USA, the Oscars will also be watched by the other countries of the world, either live or subsequently online or on television.
So here are this year’s nominees… or at least part of them:
For best picture, critics will have to choose between “The Big Short”, “The Martian”, “Brooklyn”, “Bridge of Spies”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “Spotlight”, “Room” and “The Revenant”.
The same movies are nominated for best director: Alejandro G. Inarritu for “The Revenant” (which earned star Leonardo di Caprio a nomination for his performance of Hugh Glass), Lenny Abrahamson for “The Room” (starring Brie Larson, also nominated for best female actress), George Miller for action blockbuster “Mad Max: Fury Road”, Tom McCarthy for the movie “Spotlight” (also featured in the Rachel McAdams’ nomination for best supporting female role and Mark Ruffalo for best supporting male role) and Adam McKay for “The Big Shot”.
Apart from di Caprio, Bryan Cranston, Michael Fassbender (as Steve Jobs), Eddie Redmayne and Matt Damon have also been nominated for the golden statue.
As for the most beloved leading ladies, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Brie Larson, Saoirse Ronan and Charlotte Rampling are competing for the supreme acting award. Among the best animated feature movies, “Inside Out”, “Shaun the Sheep”, “Boy and the World”, “When Marnie Was There” and “Anomalisa” are this year’s suggestions.
