Top 10 classic comedies

There are days when all you want to do is sit around doing nothing or watching movies. I know I have those days and sometimes, I get in the mood for a good old film. I was watching a classic comedy the other day and thought I’d make a list of what I believe to be the Top 10 classic comedies to watch on a rainy (or sunny) day – maybe not all of them at once, though!

1. Some Like It Hot is perhaps the most famous Marilyn Monroe comedy. Tony Curtis and John Lemmon star alongside the beautiful blonde in this 1959 Billy Wilder all time classic.

2. Singin’ In the Rain (1952) finds outstanding actors (slash dancers) Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds acting in an outstanding authentic American musical comedy.

3. The 1940 movie His Girl Friday is a smart, witty and hilarious Hollywood all time classic which finds us laughing along with Cary Grant.

4. Four years later, Frank Capra also employed Grant’s irresistible charm for his black comedy, Arsenic and Old Lace.

5. The next one is really more of a family movie than a comedy per se, but how could The Wizard of Oz be absent from any classic movie list? Who hasn’t seen pretty Judy Garland and her friends star in this 1939 screen adaptation of Frank L. Baum’s book? If the answer is “me”, be sure to remedy this soon!

6. Before the 1964 movie, My Fair Lady had already been a popular Broadway musical. However, Audrey Hepburn as the main character turned it into the iconic name it is today.

7. And if you enjoy musicals so much, 1965 The Sound of Music is an Oscar-winning classic with a candid Julie Andrews and a Byronic Christopher Plummer.

And if you finish this list, put Charlie Chaplin, as well as Laurel and Hardy on your new watch list!
