Green line – ROME – VATICAN – FLORENCE tour

Green line - ROME - VATICAN - FLORENCE tour

In the morning of our fourth day, we’ll bask in the feeling of waking up in Rome, one of the most glorious cities in the world. We’ll start our day meeting at Termini Rome Central Station from where we will go to visit a country in a city: The Vatican City, the smallest state in the world. The center of worldwide Christianity, the Vatican features the marvelous St. Peter’s Basilica, built almost 1700 years ago. You have the unique opportunity to see the bewildering art collection, containing paintings, design crafts and frescoes by some of the greatest artists of humanity. Or you can opt for another visit to the Sistine Chapel where you can admire the colossal painted ceiling, Michelangelo’s masterpiece.

Back in Rome, we’ll throw a coin and make a wish at the Fontana di Trevi. By the elaborate Baroque fountain, we’ll cross our fingers in hopes of returning to the Eternal City one day. After we’ve had lunch, we’ll step back in time and explore the amazing Roman relics that fill the city. Those of you who are truly interested in ancient history can opt for the Coliseum guided tour. After that, we’ll learn more about 4th-century Rome under Constantine by admiring the Arch of Constantine. For a tasty touch, we’ll savour a delightful Italian gelato (ice cream) before leaving for Florence late in the evening.

Accommodation in Florence or in a town nearby. Some of the accommodation we use in Rome are Idea Hotel Roma Z3 or Ibis Styles Rome Eur but you may be accommodated in a different but equal three-star hotel in the city or a city nearby.

Coffee and ice cream

Apart from visiting the buildings and museums, there are two sweet experiences not to miss in Italy: coffee and ice cream. Virtually all taverns and cafes serve delightful coffee, latte or cappuccino prepared by traditional recipes. As for the ice cream, in Italy it’s called “gelato” and it contains a lot of milk, a bit of cream and benefits from an intense taste and a dense texture. We suggest going for the traditionally Italian varieties: lemon, pistachio, hazelnut or chocolate.
